DOCUMENTARY AS IT IS.
2000 PHOTOS AND MORE TO BE SHOT
The project was started in early 2016 with the idea of capturing artists in a unique borderline state between real life and the stage. In preparation for going on stage and in short moments of their appearance behind the scenes during performances to change makeup or dressing up.
The shooting took place in the leading modern theater in Russia – the Gogol Center. Over the first year, more than 1 500 finished artistic photos of more than 20 theater repertoire performances were released. 500 of them were selected by Kirill Serebrennikov and published in a large 300 pages photo book, printed in a limited edition. However, the project has not been finished and continues to this day. I continue to shoot theater premieres. The entire print run was sold in 2017. Many Russian media wrote about the project, including GQ, Elle, InStyle, Buro 24/7, RBC, etc.
Later, some other Moscow theaters picked up the idea and began to try to shoot a similar series of photos with their actors.
